We left Mindelo, Sao Vicente on the morning of 27th December and arrived Falmouth Antigua at noon 6th January 2015.
Most of the trip was fast downwind sailing, surfing down the swells. We used the gennaker whenever the wind was light, but most of the time we had a well reefed main and the jib. At night we would generally use the 2nd or 3rd reef to try to slow the boat a little – not always possible though… Escapade loves to surf!
We were visited by whales on a few occasions, lots of dolphins and most mornings we found flying fish on deck that had managed to throw themselves onboard during the night. They were soon fried up for breakfast. Not too much actual fishing as we were sailing too fast, but we did land a nice dorado at the start of the trip and a yellowfin tuna at the end.
Weather was pretty good with a few squally nights and a beautiful full moon lighting the ocean.
So good to be back in Falmouth almost exactly 10 years after we sailed in here on Erika II. Nothing much has changed and we are enjoying all our old haunts.
After a few days rest we plan to sail around the corner to Green Island and then on up to Barbuda next week for a bit of wilderness anchoring.
More soon. x

Great job guys. Glad you’ve arrived safely. Now, what about some pressure cooker bread to go with those flying fish!
Love from NZ.
